Here I provide a sample chapter from my novel Detonation, where Axel—one of the novel’s protagonists—confronts an AI expert about his skepticism around AI risks. Despite being written in 2017, the book presents a technological and geopolitical landscape that is remarkably close to what we face today; no AI regulation, accelerating technological progress leading towards an intelligence explosion, and undue influence of corporate control over the fate of humanity. Unfortunately, the expert’s arguments on the risks remain just as valid.
Even if you have no interest in reading the book, this chapter might help illuminate the risks, as it has done for many of my readers.
I sincerely hope the coming months do not continue to track the arc of Detonation.
